While listening to the first four Parlophone LP's -- which is the first real TRUTH in a person's life --
I thought to myself as I heard all those brilliant Lennon songs, "Goddammit if it didn't all go down JUST the way he said."
It really did. I'm also amazed at how sad and blue McCartney was -- it went down just like that too.
But Lennon's musicality in the chord structure of the middle eight of "I Should Have Known Better,"
and all of "If I Fell," "Bad To Me," and "I'm Happy Just To Dance..." are the heroes.
The F-minor bit in "I'm Steppin' Out" is the same thing. It's a selfless regality in pop. It's the smartest
pop.
Like Dylan said to Harrison -- "How'd you get those chords, man?" I wonder if Harrison responded by saying,
"Oh, from John Lennon."
What he lacked in parents, he made up for in chords.
