THE OLD NEIGHBORHOOD

DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT

DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT
(StephenBard/CherieLynn)

Was the stage too high to climb?
Did all the bills go out on time?
Are the dreams not deep enough?
You know you don't sleep enough
So what, you didn't get there first
Still hung up on what they say
You should be thinking with your heart
But your big head's in the way
Don't worry about it so much
All your life you're in a hurry
Out of breath for all that worry
All it's gonna do is burn a hole inside of you
You don't have to beat yourself up
Trying to be somebody else
You're good enough
Don't worry about it so much
Was the joke above your head?
Are they still mad at what you said?
You're so afraid they think the worst
You throw your meanest punchline first
Don't worry about it so much
All your life you end up sorry
Sick to death from all that worry
When all it's gonna do is burn a hole inside of you
You don't have to beat yourself up
Trying to please somebody else
You're good enough
Don't worry about it so much

(MUST YOU BE SO) BEAUTIFUL
(StephenBard/CherieLynn)

It's over I know that
I knew that before it even was
I know dead love doesn't grow back
But my naive advisors swear it does
I'm not the only fool around
Who's been a slave to a hint of meaning
Once you start to fool around
I have direction I have desperate leaning
I behave like an obscene thing
It's not my fault I love you so
It wasn't my wish you let me go
I promise I'll try to keep this cool
Tell me though must you be so beautiful?
Your lover how is he?
Does he do it just the way you want to?
What happens when he's busy?
Do you get lonely when he doesn't want you?
It drives me crazy when you say
That you really want to be just my chum
I've got this bottle full of healthy dripping love
And you won't even try some
Quick! Ring the asylum!

DRIVE THROUGH THE OLD NEIGHBORHOOD
(StephenBard/CherieLynn)

The car was all ready as we put on our jackets for the drive
My dad had been steady but his hopes of seeing someone
Were still alive
I smiled as stories of his childhood began to arrive
As he told them I felt the feeling I felt when I was young
"There's Artie's house," he said to me with a smile.
"He's passed away now and I hadn't seen him in awhile.
We played in a band growing up in his mother's front den.
He played one hell of a smoking guitar even then."
We drove by his high school
I thought of old friends from the past
It's a funny and sad waste of time
Wondering why the time goes so fast
"I'm glad you're here," he said with a tear down his face
"Me too," I said, "It's great to finally see this place.
A memory is one of the few things that's truly your own."
"This one's a great one for me," he said as we went home

DAYDREAM
(StephenBard/CherieLynn)

Lying in a private cove
Far from what is real
Outside my mortal body, searching
The golden lady of light awaits me as I sing
A step away but untouchable
Daydream, daydream
Span across my mind
And lead me to a better place and time
Flying through a velvet sky
Above a troubled sea
I think to ask why but not to be
Wanting
Love is raining on the trees
Girl you don't know what you do to me
And the lady speaks:
"Simple sights are seldom seen."
Can this be another daydream?
Daydream, daydream
Embody me with soft caress
And vanish into nothingness

EVERYTIME EVERYWHERE
(StephenBard/CherieLynn)

Everytime I look into the mirror
I see your face staring back at me
It's so much clearer lost in your grace
Everywhere that I go my darling
Something's always there to remind me
Of that day in the snow my darling
When I went with you to find me
Everytime I look up at the sky
I feel your touch
It's easy for you to see that I want you so much
Everywhere that I go my darling
Something always makes me think of you
And you know it's a love so true
Ooh it's so much fun
Stealing kisses from your lips
And when the day is done
I can feel your fingertips upon me there
And I want you there
Everytime everywhere

THIS GRASS
(StephenBard/CherieLynn)

The trees are aflame with color
I was thinking that it couldn't get any duller
What a poor damn self-deluded fool
So stick me in the dunce's corner
And when the cheeky little cherub comes 'round
Warn her
She'll be screwing with some sorry rusty tool
Why's it always better over someone else's fence?
This grass here is very green
And when I look you in the eye
I want to build a house here with you
Plant some seeds and raise those crops up high
Traveling all across the planet
With a heart full of pity and a head of granite
I couldn't smile for all that funk that I was in
Looking for a blue sensation
Something that would color my imagination
When all the while
It was right there where you've been

RIVER TO THE SEA
(StephenBard/CherieLynn)

Where you lead I will follow
Ocean rain and clearest mountain air
You show me the way
Through straight and narrow paths
And I would follow you there
Where you're going to I will go
For you know you are everything to me
Point the way and I will follow you
Through and through
Like a river to the sea
Where you lead I will follow
You can have me every single day
Hungering for you here is a heart so hollow
I know for me there is no other way

WAITING FOR A GIRL
(StephenBard/CherieLynn)

You know that you remind me
Of a girl I knew at school
The one who'd lead me on
And make me feel just like a fool
I've been waiting for a girl like you
To come into my world
But you're a disappointment all the way down
Oh yes you're quite the honey
With that pretty voice so high
You're charming and you're funny
And I should have passed you by
I've been waiting for a girl like you
To come into my world
But you're a disappointment all the way down
Since you've come around
I haven't waited by the phone like this
Since I was 17
Honestly if you can't do what you say
You could at least say what you mean
You know that you remind me
Of this tease I used to know
She'd tell me all this crazy shit
And never ever show
I've been waiting for a girl like you
To come into my world
But you're a disappointment all the way down
Since you've come around

A BEAUTIFUL WAY
(StephenBard/CherieLynn)

I never met anyone like you
You've got a smile for everyone but also a tear
You never talk down
Even when you're joking or messing around
There's never a time that you're ever unkind
Trying to do something good in the ocean
Trying not to only makes you laugh more
And a head full of clouds drifts away to the sea
Now we're down on the boardwalk
And we're whirling around on the rides
And we're walking along
And they're still singing the songs
That we used to sing all those nights
Down at the Riptides
I remember those days
And how I almost let you get away
But you shouldered the pain
And a head full of rain
Never turned your back on me
You got a beautiful way
You got a beautiful way about you
You got a beautiful way
You do
I never met anyone like you

LETTER TO EX
(StephenBard/CherieLynn)

Sometimes at night I wonder where you are
Turn out the light walk out to the stars
Are you living right driving 'round in some fancy car?
Tell me how are you doing in your new way of life?
It's hard to imagine that you're someone else's wife
I guess I don't understand it
It just didn't work out for me and you
It's true babe
Oh I reminisce about the times that we had
The simple kiss was enchanting
Was enhancing

HANGING ON YOUR EVERY WORD
(StephenBard/CherieLynn)

Don't you know you're living your life the wrong way?
Don't you know that from heaven you're still so far away?
Just like your dad you've got a little taste for the bad
Just like your dad you make me sad
Don't you know that you should raise a family?
Don't you know that's the way it's supposed to be?
Just like your dad you've got a little taste for the bad
Just like your dad you make me sad
You just remember that I'm a child of yours
And everything that I want
Are things you once longed for
If our heads keep banging I'll be more than injured
I could die hanging on your every word
I'm hanging on your every word
Don't you know that artists are all bad news?
Don't you know that in the end they will hurt you?
Just like your dad he's got a little taste for the bad
Just like your dad he'll make you sad

GRANDPA JACK
(StephenBard/CherieLynn)

Some guys win when the game is tied
In the bottom of the ninth with two men out
Some guys lose on the other side
That's what the game is all about
From what I can tell I know it so well
Having watched it night and day
Some guys win and some guys lose
At least they get to play
Some guys swing when it's do or die
They hit the ball and drive in runs
Some guys watch strike three go by
And think that they're the unlucky ones
From what I can tell it's all just as well
They'll get their cuts another day
Some guys win and some guys lose
At least they get to play
Oh to round those bases and score the winning run
Oh to be like Willie Mays
All those seasons in the sun
They told me my chances are a million now to one
I wish that I was young
Young again
For I still love this game
I do I love it all
I love the sound a piece of good wood can make
On the sweet spot of a ball
From what I can tell I know it so well
Having listened night and day
Some guys win and some guys lose
At least they get to play
At least they get to play

PRETTY MUCH GREAT
(StephenBard/CherieLynn)

I don't mind getting up early
I don't mind staying up late
As long as you are with me
Lord it's all pretty much great
And I don't mind going to work yeah
Though sometimes I hesitate
As long as you are with me
Lord it's all pretty much great
But without you I can't even get out of the bed
Without you vacant heart and empty head
Without you oh without you
I don't want to talk (think) about this life without you
And I don't mind not having much money
Not having much love I might debate
As long as you are with me
Lord it's all pretty much great
Some folks lives they roll real easy
Most of us negotiate
As long as you are with me
Lord it's all pretty much great
Hopefully they'll ask how was it?
When I arrive at the pearly gate
Aside from that waitress in old St. Louis
It was all pretty much great
Aside from that waitress in old St. Louis
Thank you Lord it was all pretty much great

THE BARD
(StephenBard/CherieLynn)

Born to the mountains
And the white mist of the sky
He bathed in the fountains of the stream
His mother was Nature
He was the apple of her eye
She put him to sleep in forest green
One day Nature called him
And told him he must sing of her ways
She took the wood of a tree and made a guitar
"You shall pen the words Call them lyrics
You shall write the pretty sounds Call it Music
Combine the two See what it can do
It heals It heals It heals the soul."
So he did what he was told
It didn't take long
It was innocent not bold
It was loving not cold
He called it a song
The folksinger is leaving today
He's joining the lion and the dove
For they are all symbols of life, harmony and love
