XXII. Radiohead - In Rainbows.

Oh the state of Pop these days.

But enough about me.

Let’s talk about you.

What do you think of me?

The companies tumbling down the shoot quickly and why not?

Good riddance. I hope you had the time of your life.

What is the value of such a trivial thing as Poetry anyway?

You tell me.

In fact, give me whatever you think it’s worth.

Then take it.

Listen to it in your car, on your IPOD, or better, your IPHONE.

Think about it, or don’t.

Maybe you’ll just enjoy the sweeping, unearthly sounds.

Or the angelic, elastic voice of the singer with the lazy eye.

(Or the way they make the whole of the aquarium appear in your room with something called “Weird Fishes / Arpeggi.”)

Most of the tunes (and that’s the key word here - TUNES) are really upbeat.

It’s an upbeat world after all.

And small, too, said Walt Disney.

He knew all about rainbows.

Dreamt them up all the time and saw them made real.

Like melodies arced across the ceiling of heaven.

Or at least the building where people of all shapes line up to take that ride.

God they’re great (Radiohead).

So daring and original.

No compromise.

That might be the one word they don’t know the meaning of.

If they could only combine that with TUNES, with Disney, we’d really have something.

THE BENDS + KID A + It’s a small world after all.

Gosh, I’d pay eleven and change for that.

Every time out too.

Someone’s been listening to Nick Drake. (Must be Jonny.)

And thank God for that.

No point in trying to convey the power or decide the value of the Poetry here.

Just lay back and dream.

Lay back and dream.

(And if you think this is obtuse, wait till you hear their album.)
